Training Analytics for Coaches

VDOT Coach provides coaches with clear, actionable training analytics to help evaluate consistency, fitness progression, and how athletes are distributing their effort over time. These insights are available through a set of interactive charts that can be viewed over predefined or custom date ranges.

Available Charts

Weekly Mileage

Displays total running volume aggregated by week. This chart helps coaches quickly assess training consistency, progression, and overall workload trends.

VDOT Score Over Time

Shows how an athlete’s VDOT score changes across the selected time period, providing a high-level view of fitness development and adaptation to training. Coaches can hover over a change in order to see how the VDOT was changed.

Pace Distribution

Breaks down where an athlete’s total training distance is spent across pace types, helping coaches understand intensity balance and training intent.

Viewing Data by Date Range

All charts can be viewed using either predefined or custom date ranges.

Predefined Date Ranges

Coaches can quickly toggle between common ranges such as:

  • Last 4 weeks
  • Last 3 Months
  • Last 6 Months
  • Last Year
  • All Data

These presets allow for fast comparisons without additional configuration.

Custom Date Ranges

For more detailed analysis, coaches can select a custom start and end date. All charts will update automatically to reflect training data that falls within the selected range.

How Pace Distribution Is Calculated

Pace distribution reflects how distance is allocated across pace zones, based on the type of activity and the data available. To ensure consistency and clarity, V.O2 applies the following rules:

Easy Runs

  • We use the planned distance, or GPS distance if an activity file is attached.
  • The entire run is assigned to the planned pace category.

Quality Sessions

  • We use planned workout data only, even if GPS data is attached.
  • The following workout items are ignored for pace distribution:
    • Easy
    • Threshold
    • Interval
    • Repetition
    • Marathon
  • All remaining workout items are assigned to their respective pace zones.
  • Workout items marked as Custom are grouped under Other.

Unassigned Imported GPS Runs

  • If a run is imported via GPS and not assigned to a planned workout, the entire distance is added to Other.

Races

  • We use the race distance, or GPS distance if attached.
  • All race distance is assigned to Other, regardless of pace.
